"The Grand Rapids LipDub Video was filmed May 22nd, with 5,000 people, and involved a major shutdown of downtown Grand Rapids, which was filled with marching bands, parades, weddings, motorcades, bridges on fire, and helicopter take offs. It is the largest and longest LipDub video, to date.

This video was created as an official response to the Newsweek article calling Grand Rapids a "dying city." We disagreed strongly, and wanted to create a video that encompasses the passion and energy we all feel is growing exponentially, in this great city. "En Route" is an 8-minute short live-action film that was made by a crew of students from the Savannah College of Art and Design, over a period of nearly two years.

SPOILERS: The film traces the life story of a professional pilot, backtracking from the moment of his death through the events and influences that led him there. A slight deviation in course-- a fortuitous decision in child's play -- spawns a ripple effect that alters his identity and, ultimately, his fate.

The marshmallow experiment is a famous test of this concept conducted by Walter Mischel at Stanford University and discussed by Daniel Goleman in his popular work. In the 1960s, a group of four-year olds were given a marshmallow and promised another, only if they could wait 20 minutes before eating the first one. Some children could wait and others could not. The researchers then followed the progress of each child into adolescence, and demonstrated that those with the ability to wait were better adjusted and more dependable (determined via surveys of their parents and teachers), and scored an average of 210 points higher on the Scholastic Aptitude Test.

On this ocassion the security staff are on hand to ensure nobody gets hurt, but they dont cause him any trouble and allow him to peacefully demonstrate his freeom of expression. Just as well this didnt happen in Mainland China or they would have shot him. If in London they would have grabbed him by the neck and dragged him away. In the States they would have Tazered him. Well done MTR staff, you have demonstrated that Hong Kong allows freedom of expression and provides people will probably one of the highest levels of human rights in the world today.

Dubai Airports Flash Mob

Dubai Airports successfully orchestrated a flash mob showcasing the talents of 55 dancers in Terminal 1 on October 26. The project, which also involved DDF and flydubai, was a key element in a promotional campaign designed to heighten awareness for the recently launched DXB Connect, the world's first Airport Prepaid Mastercard, now on sale at Dubai Duty Free.

Not only did it surprise and delight passengers in the airport who witnessed the 'live' version, the video has also gone viral via social media.

Mirage - The Full Experience

Rip Curl has again created a technological world-first by capturing full-tilt surfing action using a "30 camera Array" -- a line of cameras firing consistently as surfers ride towards and past it. The results are unique "frozen moments of time" - that can be viewed in a combination of angles for a true in the round perspective.

Rip Curl and TimeSlice, partners in the overall development, used GoPro HD video cameras to freeze an infinite number of moments that could be viewed. The major benefit being a better way of catching all the performance surfing the Rip Curl team riders were doing, rather than just a fraction of it.

Combining our world class surf team of Mick Fanning, Owen Wright, Matt Wilkinson, Dillon Perillo and Dean Brady with the multi-frame array of cameras, gave us a Matrix style suite of "Mirage Moments", which pull the viewer in to the image, stalling there for long enough to enjoy a great move, before travelling down the line through the footage to the next Mirage Moment. The viewing metaphor for surfing in itself.

The F Word: Famine is the Real Obscenity (US)

ONE’s new campaign ad is getting a lot of attention. Not all of it of the admiring kind. Yahoo’s news pages brand it the “shocking F-word vid”. In the UK, the folk who decide what is fit and proper content for TV ads are stewing over it. A decision is expected shortly (watch this space). Critics say we’re just trying to shock.



There’s an irony here. A few weeks ago I was watching a news report on the spreading famine in Somalia. Families were walking seventy or eighty miles to cross the border to the relative safety of the Dadaab camp in Kenya. Some mothers arrived speaking of the horrific choice they’d had to make: which of their children to leave behind? Knowing that not all would make it, they’d had to make the most appalling decision. The weakest children left to die on the side of the long road to Dadaab.

If this does not shock us, we are beyond shock. We are unshockable.

A day or two after seeing that report, and after hearing from former colleagues in Save the Children and Oxfam that it really was as bad as this, we were talking in the ONE office about what we could do. The thought emerged: isn’t ‘Famine’ the real F-word? We all understand famine as a biblical notion, like plague and pestilence. We all get it as a historical abhorrence, like slavery and apartheid. But famine in the present tense? Famine in the 21st century? Isn’t that just obscene?

And so the idea was born. It wasn’t a hard sell to get people to help us. The acclaimed director Jesse Dylan came on board. A cast of characters, many of whom have a first-hand understanding of Africa, like K’Naan, Annie Lennox, George Clooney and Bono, offered to help. Our brilliant ONE creative team, led by Roxane Philson and Jeff Davidoff, pulled it all together at lightning speed. And now you see it. The results of our efforts.

It isn’t meant to shock. We hope it makes people stop and think. Think about the fact that this situation is not some act of God or nature. Drought may be inevitable but famine is not. I was in the remote highlands of Ethiopia not long ago – the kind of place that you might expect to struggle most. But not now. With long-term investments in agriculture, early warning systems, food reserves, irrigation and more, those rural communities are getting by. It’s fragile, for sure. But they are weathering this storm.

The same is true across the region. Much of Africa – even where the food system is under serious stress – is managing to sidestep the worst of this crisis. Most of Africa is hungry no more. Parents are seeing their children grow up hungry no more. One child, one family, one village at a time. Hungry No More.

And yet, as today’s latest UN situation report is expected to confirm, 750,000 people are threatened with death in the next six months. These are the people who couldn’t step to the side. They are caught in the full force of a silent storm. Many of those lives can still be saved, if the world acts urgently and boldly. And beyond this crisis, let’s determine now that we will never let this happen again. Nobody’s saying it’s easy. But it can be done.

Children left to die on the side of the road. F*****. Let’s stop it.

Frankenstein (1910) - Full Movie

Frankenstein is a 1910 film made by Edison Studios that was written and directed by J. Searle Dawley. It was the first motion picture adaptation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. The unbilled cast included Augustus Phillips as Dr. Frankenstein, Charles Ogle as the Monster, and Mary Fuller as the doctor's fiancée.

Shot in three days, it was filmed at the Edison Studios in the Bronx, New York City. Although some sources credit Thomas Edison as the producer, he in fact played no direct part in the activities of the motion picture company that bore his name.

Results and Effectiveness:
The content developed by the media spread to social media via #16juin2014.com and people began to imagine wonderful futures and called for action. 16juin2014 hashtag was n°1 top trend topic on Twitter all day long. At 6pm, the debate was everywhere on TV, radios, blogs... Getting back to work quickly became an act of resistance. The operation was covered by most Tunisian media and several international networks. As getting on with life had become a political act, people massively got back to work the next day and the 6 brands recommenced traditional marketing. Others soon followed.
Creative Execution:
So we decided to show everyone how bright our future could be if we all started building it now rather than look back nor complain about the present. We convinced 6 brands and 5 major Tunisian media of which newspapers La Presse and Al Chourouk and online magazine Webmanager to participate in the June 16th 2014 campaign. During a whole day, the media acted as if it were June 16th 2014 and presented Tunisia as a prosperous, modern and democratic country.
Insights, Strategy and the Idea:
Tunis, January 14th 2011. Tunisians put an end to 23 years of brutal dictatorship. It was a moment of intense hope. But we were all too soon brought back to reality. The entire country went on strike and economic activity was soon left to a standstill. The advertising industry, like many others, was completely stuck. Brands were quite willing to advertise in order to kick-start the economy, but they were afraid of public perception. We needed to find a way to encourage the people to get back to work and start rebuilding the country we had all fought for.
