EACTS YOUNG INVESTIGATOR AWARDS
To stimulate research, the EACTS has instituted prizes for the best manuscripts on topics of clinical or experimental research in the fields of Thoracic Surgery, Cardiac Surgery, Congenital Heart Disease and Transplantation presented by young investigators at the Annual Meeting of the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery.
The Award is €3,000 for each prize.
Cardiac, Congenital Heart Disease and Thoracic Young Investigator Awards
Candidates for the prize must:
Be the first author of the paper
Be under 35 years of age (in 2008)
Have nationality of, or be resident in a European country
Submit a covering letter to the Executive Secretariat in Windsor, (mail, fax or email) from the Director of Service or Laboratory in the European Institution at which the research programme has been undertaken, indicating the originality of the investigation and the proportion of the work performed by the candidate
Select option Young Investigator's Award
Present unpublished work not previously presented at a major (national or international) scientific meeting
Candidates may be members or non-members of The European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery.

The Alessandro Ricchi Transplant Services Foundation AwardEACTS has established The Alessandro Ricchi Transplant Services Foundation Award in honour and recognition of all those who have died or have been injured during their clinical practice. The award is €3,000.
If you intend to submit an abstract for presentation at the Joint Meeting you will be eligible for the Award if you meet the following criteria:
You are the first author of a paper within the subject of Transplantation Heart, Transplantation Lung, Cardiovascular or Thoracic Tissue and Cell Transplantation or Engineering.
You are under 35 years of age in 2008
You submit a covering letter to the Executive Secretariat in Windsor, (mail, fax or email) from the Director of Service or Laboratory in the European Institution at which the research programme has been undertaken, indicating the originality of the investigation and the proportion of the work performed by the candidate
You select option The Alessandro Ricchi Transplant Services Foundation Award
You present unpublished work not previously presented at a major (national or international) scientific meeting
Candidates may be members or non-members of The European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery.

HANS G BORST AWARD FOR THORACIC AORTIC SURGERYThis Award was instituted in honour of Professor H G Borst, leading European surgeon of thoracic aortic surgery and one of the founders of the EACTS. The purpose of the award is to stimulate advanced clinical or experimental research in this field by young investigators as documented by an outstanding presentation during the Annual Meetings of the EACTS. The Award is €5,000.
Candidates for the Award must:
Be the first author of the paper
Select option Hans G Borst Annual Award for Thoracic Aortic Surgery
Present unpublished work not previously presented at a major (national or international) scientific meeting
Candidates may be members or non-members of The European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery.
This award is not subject o an age limit.

C WALTON LILLEHEI YOUNG INVESTIGATOR'S AWARDSt Jude Medical, Inc has established the C Walton Lillehei, PhD MD Young Investigators Award in honour of Dr C W Lillehei and in recognition of implanting the St Jude Medical heart valve. The amount awarded is US $10,000 and is intended to provide additional support to the cardiovascular community for research efforts.
If you intend to submit an abstract for presentation at the 21st EACTS Annual Meeting you will be eligible for the Award if you meet the following criteria:
You are the first author of a paper within the subject of heart valve surgery
You are under 35 years of age in 2008
You have nationality of, or residency in, a European or Middle Eastern country
You submit a covering letter from the Director of Service or Laboratory in the Institution at which the research programme has been undertaken, indicating the originality of the investigation and the proportion of the work performed by you
You select option C Walton Lillehei Young Investigator's Award
You present unpublished work not previously presented at a major international scientific meeting.
Candidates may be members or non-members of The European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery.

Notification of AwardsThe first authors of the abstracts chosen by the Programme Committee in all award categories, will be the finalists and will be notified in writing in June by the EACTS Executive Secretariat.
Adjudication of AwardsEACTS Young Investigator Awards The Alessandro Ricchi Transplant Services Foundation Award C Walton Lillehei Young Investigator's Award Young Surgeon's Congenital Heart Disease AwardIn addition to the manuscripts required by EJCTS, finalists will have to submit their manuscript for review by the Award Panel before 1 September. The Award Committee will make its selection and recommendation following the presentation of all papers and the authors whose abstracts, manuscripts and presentations are judged most outstanding, will receive the appropriate award.
