LOOKING AHEAD TO LIONS 2008
LOOKING AHEAD TO LIONS 2008
FESTIVAL CEO Philip Thomas has announced new developments for the 2008 edition of the Festival. A new awards category, Design, will bring the number of categories to 10. "We've been talking with the industry about this issue for for some years, now is the time to recognise the fact that design is a fundamental element to all aspects of brand communication," he said.
The standing-room-only workshop programme - which this year increased from 10 to 20 - is expanding again in 2008 to include, among other possibilities, Media workshops. "The feedback has been extremely positive this year," Thomas said. "We have the world's best creative talent here every year in Cannes and that is something that all delegates should benefit from."
The 2008 Festival will also develop the new Content Showcase, on Level 01 of the Palais close to the press and exhibition areas and accessible to all 9,300 registered delegates. "As the multi-screen, multi-platform landscape evolves and brands demand ever-more distinct ways of communicating their message, so content - in all its forms - becomes ever-more important," Thomas said.
The Festival's special Student Delegates programme launched this year, attracting groups from the US, Europe and Asia. The programme offers full-time students of advertising the opportunity to participate in the Festival and attend the seminar and workshop programmes, with tutors travelling free with their groups. "With the Young Creatives delegations being such a success over the years, we think it's vital that the learnings and inspiration of Cannes is available to the next generation of talent," Thomas said. "This was the first year and it has worked well. We will ever-more students from different parts of the world next year."
