American-Thai Foundation and Yonok Foundation had the pleasure of hosting and organizing the 2013 Thailand tour of the renowned Stanford Chamber Chorale and Stanford Taiko, led by Stephen M. Sano, Chair of the Music Department at Stanford University. The tour was presented as a tribute to His Majesty the King and as a celebration of 180 years of Thai-U.S. relations (the longest in Asia) and the 25th anniversary of Yonok Foundation.

In honor of H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Rama ix of Thailand, the Chorale is pleased to share His Majesty's beloved song สายฝน (Falling Rain). Composed in May of 1946, this graceful waltz quickly became one of the most popular royal melodies. In an address to the Musicians Association of Thailand,His Majesty relates the enduring popularity of the song among the Thai people:

Some six months after the song was released, H.H. Prince Chakrabandh Pensiri wrote to me telling of a stroll he was taking in Chiang Mai when he heard someone whistling the "Falling Rain" tune. He checked it out and saw that the sound was coming from a tin alley, made by a woman busy washing some clothes. So, "Falling Rain" is that effective: it helps clean clothes, too...
